Sound Analysis blog tasks

  1) Find a film clip on YouTube that uses sound in an interesting way. Analyse the use of sound, making sure you use the key language we have learned about sound in film: Diegetic and non-diegetic sound Parallel and contrapuntal sound Sound bridges Remember to discuss/analyse all the different types of sound present in the clip: Music Dialogue Voiceover Sound effects https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YR9bpAdUiVs "Homelander's mental breakdown" (The Boys) All throughout the 37 second clip non-diegetic sound is used, through the use of the music score in the background made specifically for the show. However diegetic sound is cleverly mixed in with us hearing our main antagonist react to what he's watching. An example of the dialogue in this scene could be the sounds Homelander makes (e.g. him laughing, shouting or swearing). A sound bridge is used from 0:13 - 0:14 as he swears and starts to get  progressively aggressive and from 0:22 - 0:24 as he goes from whining to cu

Lighting blog tasks

  1) Still image analysis Picture 1: - Low-key Lighting - Looks like a mixture between top and under lighting   but I'd say top lighting. - All her body is shrouded in darkness except for her   face. The features on her face are very defined (e.g.   cheek bones feel very defined). Picture 2: - High-key lighting - This is use of top lighting. - He's made to look bold and intimidating so that could   suggest that he's the protagonist (mainly due to him   being in the light). The way the shadows wrap around   his eyes suggests that he is a figure of authority. Picture 3: - Low-key lighting  - I think that under lighting has been used here. - Most of this character's body is covered by the shadows,   except for his face which is only half covered. The way the   under lighting has been used to show parts of the gun   leads us to believe this character is a villain and untrustworthy. Picture 4: - High-key lighting - I think that top lighting has been used here. - It creates t

Mise-en-scene recreation: Learner response

WWW: Good performance -Hispanic accent Same music + titles -authentic recreation Costume + tie Good editing -use of jumpcuts -titles Location - use of backdrop layer -green screen Captures amateur aesthetic EBI: -Include 100 word ''essay'' explanation -Include shot list Self Assessment WWW: -We nailed the amateur-team recording aesthetic -I nailed the Hispanic-American accent really well somehow -The recreation was extremely faithful to the original -The costume was followed closely as well EBI: -It would have been nicer to record this with a steady camera as this was recorded with a phone -It would have been nicer to be able to have done it in one take. -Next time edit with Adobe Premier, as this was edited with CapCut (a mobile editing app) I think the biggest thing we could have used to improve would have been time. Everything was rushed and done very last minute. Timing would've allowed us to have more time to record everything (obviously) but it would've

Mise-en-scene Analysis Task

"The Boys" still image Costumes: -Everyone seems to be grounded in reality, there's no fancy outfits or whatnot. -The main  protagonist has a rather contrasting colour palette, the "Hawaiian" print-style shirt contrasts heavily with the black trench coat so it questions our trust in him. -The other two characters are dressed quite casually, making us wonder if they've been forced to tag along with our protagonist . They look normal compared to him. Lighting: -Everything seems to be really grainy and dull, which perfectly captures the look of realism the show is trying to go for. -There isn't anything vibrant and the only tones visible are greys and blacks and whites. -The bright lighting gives little life to the tones but even with the lights everything still looks grainy and muddy. Actor (placement and movement) -The main protagonist is placed in the middle of the screen looking off into the distance. He looks neutral in this scene. -The two side
